have you ever felt genuinely inspired and stuck at the same time?
not because you don't know what you want but because the circumstances just don't allow it yet.

that's where i've been for a while now.

i to came to hong kong because of a study program. a dual degree, forty hours a week between school and the office. without it, no visa and without the visa, i wouldn't have ever met the people i now call my friends.
coming here after my time in the military was the right step. my intention was to put myself in an environment that forces you to grow.
moving to hong kong was exactly that.

before moving here everything i had was hope. i was hoping for an environment that would contribute to my development. now, after more than a year, i can say that it's not the city itself that has helped me. it's been the people.

the mtr in hong kong is packed at every hour. shoulder to shoulder, everyone moving somewhere. nobody here ended up by accident. hong kong is not a city you drift into. everyone made a decision to be here, left something behind, bet on something else. that's the beauty of it all. the drive.

last weekend i went to beijing with my best friend from hong kong. the first thing he did on saturday morning was open his laptop and start working. no one tells him to. it comes naturally because he's passionate about what he's building. watching that, you stop wondering if the life you want is possible and start seeing what it actually requires.

after more than a year here, there are moments in the classroom where i feel the pull toward something else. so much opportunity. it's not that school is bad. it's just that i can see further than i could before i got here.

but that's exactly the point. i can only see it because i came.

ten months left until the program is finished. i'll finish it properly. not out of obligation but because this program gave me the city, the people, and the perspecitve.

that's not nothing. that's everything.

inspiration without the ability to act on it is uncomfortable. but sometimes the thing that holds you back is the same thing that brought you here.
